How to sign "yes" in ASL
How to Sign "Yes"
“Yes” is signed by forming an “S” handshape with your dominant hand and nodding it like a head:
- Make a fist (the “S” shape) with your dominant hand.
- Move it up and down at the wrist, mimicking a head nodding “yes.”
Tips
- Think of your hand as a head giving a nod of agreement.
- The motion should be short and firm, not floppy.
Common Mistakes
- Over-exaggerating the motion — it should be a small “yes” nod, not shaking your arm.
- Using an open hand instead of a fist — stick to the “S” shape.
Think: “Yes, like a little head nod — simple and sure.”
