How to sign "thank you" in ASL

How to Sign "Thank You"

“Thank you” is signed by moving your dominant hand from your chin outward, like blowing a kiss (but flatter):

  • Start with fingers together and the tips touching your chin.
  • Move your hand slightly forward and away from your face.
  • Keep the palm facing upward.

Tips

  • Use both hands for “thank you all” if you’re addressing a group.
  • A smile adds warmth and reinforces politeness.

Common Mistakes

  • Blowing a kiss — don’t pucker your lips or exaggerate the motion.
  • Moving your hand downward — it should move outward and slightly up.

Chin ➝ out = “Thank you.” Easy and graceful!
