How to sign "play" in ASL
How to Sign "Play"
“Play” is signed by shaking both hands in the Y-handshape (thumb and pinky out):
- Make the Y-handshape with both hands (thumb and pinky extended, other fingers in).
- Hold your hands out in front, about shoulder width apart.
- Shake them gently a few times side to side.
Tips
- Think of the "Y" handshapes dancing or playing together.
- The motion should be cheerful and light, not stiff.
Common Mistakes
- Using incorrect handshape — only thumb and pinky should be out.
- Making the movement too fast or aggressive.
Think: “Let’s play — hands having fun!”
