How to sign "no" in ASL
How to Sign "No"
“No” is signed by closing the index and middle fingers to the thumb — like a mouth snapping shut:
- Extend your index and middle fingers together (like a peace sign), and your thumb out.
- Tap the fingers to your thumb a couple of times, like a puppet saying “no.”
Tips
- Think of a mouth saying “No, no!” — the fingers act like jaws.
- Use a firm but not aggressive motion.
Common Mistakes
- Using just one finger — always use both index and middle fingers.
- Making it too fast or unclear — keep it crisp and visible.
Think: “No means no” — even your fingers say it.
