How to sign "language" in ASL
How to Sign "Language"
“Language” is signed by forming “L” shapes with both hands and spreading them outward in a wave-like motion:
- Make the “L” handshape with both hands (thumb and index finger extended).
- Start with the tips of both “L”s touching in front of you.
- Pull them apart with a slight wave or fluttering motion outward.
Tips
- The “L”s represent communication branching outward.
- Use fluid, wave-like motion to suggest flow of language.
Common Mistakes
- Making stiff or jerky movements — keep it smooth.
- Using wrong handshapes (e.g., “V” or “1” instead of “L”).
Think: “Language spreads — like waves from a source.”
