How to sign "good morning" in ASL
How to Sign "Good Morning"
“Good morning” combines two signs: good + morning:
- First, sign good by bringing your dominant hand from your chin to your non-dominant palm (see above).
- Then, place your non-dominant arm across your body, palm down, like a base.
- With your dominant arm bent at the elbow, raise the forearm from the crook of the other arm upward — like the sun rising.
Tips
- Do both parts in one fluid motion for a natural flow.
- The “morning” part mimics the sun rising over your arm — visualize it!
Common Mistakes
- Only doing one part (like just “good”) — make sure both are included.
- Rushing the motion — each gesture should be smooth and expressive.
Think: “Give goodness. Greet the sun. It’s a good morning.”
