How to sign "for" in ASL
How to Sign "For"
“For” is signed by forming an “F” handshape and touching your forehead, then moving outward:
- Form an “F” (thumb and index finger circle, other fingers extended).
- Touch the tip of your index finger to your forehead.
- Move your hand outward and down slightly.
Tips
- Index finger = small point of concept; outward motion = direction or purpose.
- Keep motion fluid and deliberate.
Common Mistakes
- Skipping the forehead touch—key to meaning.
- Wrong handshape—must be “F.”
Think: “F from head, outward — that’s for.”
