How to sign "father" in ASL
How to Sign "Father"
“Father” is signed by tapping your thumb (in a “5” handshape) to your forehead:
- Form an open “5” handshape with your dominant hand.
- Position your thumb near the center of your forehead (above eyebrow).
- Tap gently once or twice.
Tips
- Thumb to forehead = male family sign.
- Keep fingers extended and hand shape open.
Common Mistakes
- Touching chin—that’s “mother.”
- Using closed handshape—must be open “5.”
Think: “Father = open hand thumb at forehead.”
