How to sign "color" in ASL

How to Sign "Color"

“Color” is signed by fluttering the fingers of your dominant hand in front of your chin:

  • Hold your dominant hand open with fingers spread slightly.
  • Place the tips of your fingers near your chin (without touching it).
  • Wiggle your fingers in place a few times — like color blooming or shifting.

Tips

  • Imagine a splash of colors spreading from your chin — that’s the idea!
  • Keep your fingers relaxed and movement gentle, not exaggerated.

Common Mistakes

  • Touching your chin — the fingers should stay close, but not touch.
  • Making the motion too fast or jerky — keep it smooth and fluttery.

Think: “Colors radiate from your face — like expression!”
