How to sign "bathroom" in ASL

How to Sign "Bathroom"

“Bathroom” is signed using the letter “T” handshape and shaking it side to side, like you're asking where the toilet is:

  • Form the letter “T” with your dominant hand (thumb between index and middle fingers).
  • Hold it out in front of you at about chest level.
  • Shake your wrist side to side two or three times.

Tips

  • Think of “T” for toilet — it’s quick and efficient.
  • Use a short, clear wrist shake — no big arm movement.

Common Mistakes

  • Using other letters like “B” or “R” — it must be a “T”.
  • Making the motion too large or too slow.

Think: “T is for Toilet — Bathroom request.”
