How to sign "apple" in ASL

How to Sign "Apple"

“Apple” is signed by twisting your knuckle on your cheek, like you're showing a dimple or biting into an apple:

  • Form an “X” handshape (hooked index finger) with your dominant hand.
  • Place the knuckle of your bent index finger on your cheek.
  • Twist it slightly in place a couple of times.

Tips

  • Think of dimples or the action of biting into a crisp apple.
  • Use a gentle, visible twist — don’t jab your face.

Common Mistakes

  • Using the wrong finger — it must be a bent index ("X" hand).
  • Placing it too low or not on the cheek.

Think: “Apples make your cheeks smile.”
